The First Lady donated on behalf of the Renewed Hope Initiative while in Minna for a condolence visit to the Niger state government and families impacted by the flooding, as reported by the National Television Authority.
Flood claims 100 lives in Niger state
On Saturday, May 31, reports disclosed that the devastating flood that swept through Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger state claimed over 100 lives, with more than 100 people still missing as of Friday, May 30.
The surging floodwaters submerged homes and swept away everything in its path. As search and rescue operations continued with more people still at risk, distraught families mounted an intense search for their missing loved ones.
The incident has since garnered sympathy across Nigeria as citizens and political leaders sympathise with the families of the victims.
Remi Tinubu announces plan for Niger women
While presenting the cheque and other relief materials to the governor of Niger state, Umaru Bago, the First Lady emphasised the need to support the victims in their recovery process.
Remi Tinubu also introduced an intervention to support women-led small and medium-scale businesses in the state through the RHI Women Empowerment Programme, launched in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

NEMA recovers 115 bodies in Niger flood
Legit.ng previously reported that no fewer than 115 more bodies have been recovered at the scene of the flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger state.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that the search and rescue operations team was able to achieve this at the scene of the flood disaster.
The Mokwa flood not only claimed 21 lives but also left dozens missing. As rescue operations continue, over 50 houses were completely submerged, and the road connecting northern and southern Nigeria through Mokwa has been cut off, as seen in a trending video.
Victim recounts loss of 12 family members
Legit.ng also reported that the devastating flood in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger state on 29 May claimed the lives of 12 members of a single family, leaving only one survivor hospitalised.
The disaster, which struck the communities of Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa area of the state, was triggered by a torrential downpour, submerging homes and displacing scores of residents.
A victim and survivor of the flood, Hajiya Hassana Mokwa, narrated the heartbreaking incident of how she lost her family to the disaster.
