Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, made the statement on Tuesday, August 5, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he challenged critics and the public to investigate his political record.
“Throughout my political journey, I have never been involved in thuggery, the snatching of ballot boxes, or any form of electoral malpractice,” Obi said.
He added,
“I challenge anyone: conduct your investigations. You will find no stains of rigging or violence associated with my name.”
Obi: Opponents were never denied their rights
Obi insisted that he had always treated his political opponents with fairness, stressing that none of them had ever suffered injustice at his hands during past elections.
“Ask those who have contested against me; none were ever denied their rights, framed, or falsely accused.
“None was asked to place their advert materials or break the bank to do so. I believe in fair competition, not manufactured victories," he stated.
Why one term is enough to transform Nigeria, Obi explains
Obi used the opportunity to restate his belief that a single presidential term of four years is enough to turn Nigeria around, if leadership is sincere and focused.
“I still find it baffling that my decision to do a term of four years, if given the mandate to rule this country, is generating so much agitation.
“By this feeling, we are doubting the fact that a sincere leader can achieve much in 48 months," he said.
Obi: I’m not desperate for power
Obi dismissed suggestions that he is desperate for political power, describing such assumptions as misguided.
“I have never been desperate in the pursuit of power, or anything else, for that matter,” he noted.
He went further to criticise political behaviour that relies on desperation, such as making false promises or shifting positions to gain popularity.
“What drives me is not personal ambition, but a deep commitment to see Nigeria work,” Obi explained.

Highlighting how much progress can be made in just one term, Obi said a focused and disciplined government could combat corruption, uphold the rule of law, and improve the nation's infrastructure.
“In four years, we can confront corruption head-on, redirecting resources to priority areas,” he argued.
Chimamanda says Obi doesn't need to be president
Previously, Legit.ng reported that Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has once again thrown her weight behind former Anambra governor and presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, describing him as a rare kind of leader in Nigeria’s political space.
She added that many politicians are driven by ego and desperation, while Obi stands out as someone who sees public service as a duty, not a platform for praise or personal gain.
