Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has called on the Nigerian government to honour Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, the 17-year-old student from Yobe State who recently won the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London.
Nafisa emerged the overall best in English language proficiency, outperforming over 20,000 participants from 69 countries—including native English-speaking nations.

Pantami asks FG to recognise brilliant girl
Reacting to the news through his verified social media handle, Prof. Pantami described Nafisa’s triumph as a moment of national pride and a clear demonstration of the intellectual potential among Nigerian youths.
He noted that she represents the type of excellence that deserves formal recognition at the highest level.
“Nafisa’s achievement has sparked our celebration,” he stated.
“There is no doubt that her success can be attributed to her natural talent, dedication, discipline, and support she received from her parents and the schools she attended.”

Pantami urged the federal government to extend the same level of reward given to victorious sports teams to Nafisa and her English teacher.
He referenced the recent recognition of the Nigerian women’s football team, who each received $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) after their win at the Women’s Africa Cup in Morocco.

He also mentioned the national basketball team, D’Tigress, who were similarly appreciated after their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket victory.
Drawing from these precedents, Pantami said:
“I strongly recommend that Nafisa deserves $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and a national honour from the federal government of Nigeria. In addition, her English teacher deserves a reward similar to the one given to the coaching and technical team of the football and basketball players.”
He stressed the importance of recognising academic achievements alongside sporting accomplishments, calling it essential for the country’s future. Education, he added, is not just a personal asset but a national investment that requires consistent reinforcement and appreciation.
“Let’s invite our daughter and the daughter of all Nigerians, along with her English teacher, to the presidency.
“What is good for the goose is good for the gander,” Pantami added.
