Police Arrest Four Over Missing Newborn in Hospital

Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state - Four suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged theft of a newborn baby in a hospital in Ekiti state.

It was gathered that the newborn baby went missing on Monday morning at the Okeyinmi Health Centre in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

According to The Nation, an eyewitness said the baby’s disappearance was noticed when nurses were preparing to care for her on Monday morning.

It was gathered that the baby was delivered on Sunday evening and was nowhere to be found on Monday morning.

The incident raised fears through the spine of the mother and others at the ward.

“It was when the nurses on duty wanted to cater to the baby in the morning that it was discovered that the child, said to be delivered on Sunday evening, was nowhere to be found.”

As reported By The Punch, the incident caused pandemonium at the health facility on Monday morning following the discovery that the newly delivered baby was nowhere to be found.

The state police spokesperson, Abutu Sunday, said the police have begun a thorough investigation into the matter.

Abutu said the police will ensure the safe recovery of the missing baby.

“The CP has directed the State Crime Investigative Department (CID) to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the recovery of the newborn baby.

“Meanwhile, four suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime and are giving us credible information that will aid the investigation process.”

According to Daily Trust, the members of staff in the ward, the mother of the baby, security guard and other suspects have been taken to the police station for further interrogation.

A six-month-old baby kidnapped over a month ago in Port Harcourt was rescued by the Rivers State Police Command, leading to the arrest of six suspects.

The main suspect, who sold the child for N3.6 million, was tracked down and apprehended in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital

The rescue operation uncovered a child trafficking syndicate and brought the child back to safety.
