Osun state - Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or align with any of its political figures ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
In a statement released on Friday, August 1, by his media aide, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described the rumour as completely false and reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“There is no truth in those publications and speculations. Governor Adeleke has no alliance with anyone in ADC. He remains in PDP, will run in PDP, and needs no alliance with ADC to win with a wide margin in 2026," the statement read.
Adeleke insists PDP remains his political home
Adeleke, who won the 2022 governorship election under the PDP, said he has no reason to leave a party under which he has delivered strong performance and earned the trust of the Osun electorate, ThisDay reported.
“The Osun electorate supports Governor Adeleke because of his impressive performance since he came to office. That good work is still ongoing and Osun people are committed to sustaining the delivery of good governance by re-electing Governor Adeleke in 2026,” Rasheed said.
PDP Osun has adopted Tinubu for 2027
Interestingly, the statement also highlighted that the PDP in Osun has adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, signalling a rare case of cross-party support at the national level, Vanguard reported.
“We, the PDP Osun, have already adopted and endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, so there is no alliance with ADC,” the statement added.

Adeleke calls for party unity ahead of elections
Adeleke urged all PDP members in Osun to focus on strengthening the party’s structure at all levels, as preparations for the next electoral cycle gain momentum.
“We call on our party members to remain united and work together as we position the PDP for another resounding victory in 2026,” he said.
The governor's firm position appears aimed at quelling ongoing political speculation as attention begins to shift toward the next electoral cycle in Osun and beyond.
Gbe Benjamin, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has taken a swipe at Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State for declaring support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election while still in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“It’s amusing to watch Governor Adeleke declare support for the president while claiming to stay loyal to the PDP.
"That’s playing both sides. If he continues this way without making a decisive move, especially towards the ADC, he may find himself stranded politically. Loyalty is a two-way street, and betrayal in this terrain is never far,” Benjamin said.
