Governor Yusuf Appoints Saidu Yahya to Head Kano Anti-Graft Commission

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has nominated Saidu Yahya for confirmation as the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), following the quiet departure of Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado.

The nomination, reported by Daily Trust, comes amid internal tensions at the PCACC. Earlier in the week, the commission issued a circular appointing Zahraddeen Kofar Mata as Acting Executive Chairman, a move that reportedly sparked discontent among staff and stakeholders.

However, on Friday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced that Yahya, described as a seasoned anti-corruption expert and accomplished public servant, had been selected to take over the leadership of the commission.

Anti-corruption expert with ICPC background

Born in 1978, Yahya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Bayero University Kano (BUK) and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, specialising in Entrepreneurship and Venture Creation.

According to the statement, “Yahya brings with him a wealth of experience from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where he has served in various strategic roles.

Until his nomination, he held the position of Team Leader, General Investigations and Constituency/Executive Projects Tracking Division, and was a member of the Directorate of Operations Task Force of the ICPC.”

With over 18 years of experience investigating corrupt practices and related offences, Yahya is said to have developed expertise in bribery and corruption, money laundering, illicit financial flows (IFF), sabotage, criminal diversion of funds and properties, stealing, project tracking, and staff misconduct.

“He is also a trainer on investigation techniques and project monitoring/tracking, having undergone professional training with numerous reputable law enforcement agencies and institutions including the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Justice, Defense Intelligence College, Guards Brigade (177 Battalion), Federal Treasury Academy, Quantity Survey Academy, and the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, among others,” the statement added.

Governor Yusuf appoints Hafsat Kutama as PCACC Legal Adviser

In a related development, Governor Yusuf has approved the appointment of Barrister Hafsat Ada’u Kutama as the new Secretary and Legal Adviser to the PCACC, effective immediately.

The Head of Service has also been directed to redeploy the outgoing Secretary and Legal Adviser, Barrister Zaharadden Hamisu Kofar Mata, back to the Ministry of Justice for reassignment.

Nigerian governor approves salary increment

Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano state has approved an increment of salary for academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions.

Kwankwason Tuwita, the senior special assistant on digital media to the governor of Kano state, revealed this in a statement shared on his X page on Thursday, March 20.
