Atiku's Camp Reacts as Viral Video Shows Ex-VP Declaring Confidence to Get Presidential Ticket

A viral video showing former vice president Atiku Abubakar confidently speaking about securing his party’s ticket has emerged.

In the video seen by Legit.ng, Atiku appeared upbeat about his chances, leading to fresh speculations about his political plans.

However, his media team has quickly debunked any suggestion that the footage reflects a current development.

Aide says clip is from 2023 primary race

In a statement on Thursday, Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, clarified that the video was recorded in the build-up to the 2023 presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Yes, this was former Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007), Atiku Abubakar, speaking to journalists ahead of the 2023 PDP presidential primary,” Ibe explained.

He added:

“He sounded confident because that is what is expected of a man who had worked hard and was optimistic of victory. It is important to provide the context of this video to deprive mischief makers of the opportunity of misrepresenting what this video is all about,” he added.

Atiku’s team accuses media of mischief

Another aide, Abdul Rasheeth, also reacted to the video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), accusing some media houses of twisting the context to mislead the public.

“When did AA tweet this on X? Unfortunately, the media may have some negative intentions regarding Atiku. This information is false and untrue,” he said.

He specifically accused Arise TV of sharing an old clip recorded during the 2023 election period and presenting it as if it were recent.

“@ARISEtv used an old video from the previous election, in which His Excellency Atiku Abubakar was interviewed at the airport, and is presenting it as if it were recent,” Rasheeth wrote.

Previously, Legit.ng reported that Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical spiritual church took a swipe at Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers state and ex-Minister of Transportation under the immediate past administration of late Muhammadu Buhari, that he cannot be president.
