Fayose's Younger Brother Condemns Ex-Governor for Endorsing APC: "Total Betrayal"

  • Emmanuel Fayose has condemned his elder brother and ex-governor Ayodele Fayose for endorsing APC’s Governor Oyebanji ahead of Ekiti 2026.
  • He labelled the endorsement as betrayal and accused Ayodele of undermining the party that once brought him to power.
  • Emmanuel also criticised the rally turnout and called on INEC to sanction APC for alleged early campaigning

Tensions have erupted within the Fayose political family as Emmanuel Fayose, a governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, openly criticised his elder brother and former state governor, Ayodele Fayose, for backing the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 election.

Ayodele Fayose, who governed Ekiti twice on the PDP platform, sparked controversy earlier this week when he declared his support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC and President Bola Tinubu during a large rally in Ado Ekiti.

Wearing a PDP-branded fez cap, the ex-governor urged voters to return Oyebanji and Tinubu to power until 2030 and 2031, respectively.

Younger Fayose condemns former governor

Reacting through a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Emmanuel Fayose described the endorsement as a deep betrayal of the party that had long supported his brother’s political career.

“My elder brother, former Governor Ayo Fayose, benefited immensely from the PDP and governed the state twice on the party’s platform. His recent endorsement of Governor Oyebanji amounts to a total betrayal of the PDP,” Emmanuel stated.

The younger Fayose said he found it disappointing that his brother, instead of helping to rebuild and reposition the PDP in Ekiti, had chosen to undermine it so publicly.

“I urge Ayodele Fayose to leave the PDP if he has nothing to contribute to the repositioning of the party and restoring it to its pride of place, rather than ridiculing himself in the public space,” he added.

He further criticised the rally itself, labelling it a “show of shame” and questioning the turnout.

People displeased with APC actions

According to him, despite the attendance of former governors, defectors, and what he described as a rented crowd, fewer than 10,000 people turned up from Ekiti’s estimated three million residents—an indication, he claimed, of growing public dissatisfaction with the APC government.

Emmanuel also expressed concern over what he sees as a breach of electoral regulations, accusing the APC of starting campaigns prematurely and urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to intervene. “No one or party should be above the law,” he warned.

While acknowledging Ayodele Fayose’s right to make personal political choices, Emmanuel insisted that dragging the PDP’s name into what he termed a “charade” runs counter to the values of honour and loyalty traditionally upheld in the family.
