Tinubu Lists What Nigerian Governors Should Prioritise, "Change the Story of Our People"

State House, Abuja - President Bola Tinubu has called on the 36 governors of the federation to prioritise Nigeria's welfare by investing in the future of the people. He called on the governors to invest in poverty eradication, infrastructure, rural electrification, and agricultural mechanisation.

The president reportedly made the call while speaking at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday, July 31.

NEC endorses Tinubu's ward-based development

According to the presidency, the council also endorsed a new ward-based development strategy of the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP). He added that this will help in actualising the double-digit economic growth through direct intervention in the 8,809 administrative wards in the 36 states of the country.

"Let us change the story of our people in the rural areas. The economy is working. We are on the path of recovery, but we need to stimulate growth in the rural areas. We know the situation in the rural areas, let us collaborate and do what will benefit the people."

President Tinubu explained that the governors should work with the federal government to improve the economic development in the rural areas of the country. He stressed that there is a need for a support mechanism in agriculture to improve the school feeding scheme and fight insecurity.

He also directed the NEC to create a committee to enhance the actualisation of some legacy projects, particularly the Sokoto-Badagry and Lagos-Calabar Super Highways.

Uba Sani speaks on Tinubu's achievement

Tinubu's comment came the day after Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state said that it would be difficult for any Nigerian governor to go against the second-term ambition in the 2027 election.

The governor made this known while speaking at the two-day interactive session on engagement of government-citizen, an event which was organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) at the Arewa House in Kaduna.

According to Sani, the President Tinubu administration has been talking to non-state actors to address the progress and assess the situation in the northern part of the country. He added that the approach is unprecedented in how national issues are being addressed.

Former PDP governor endorses Tinubu

Legit.ng earlier reported that former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has announced his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.

The PDP chieftain, at the same time, declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC as his preferred candidate for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti.

Fayose had stormed the APC rally with his branded PDP cap, adding that he remained a member of the PDP and would not dump the party for the APC.
