Nkiruka Madueke: Tinubu Sacks DG of NCCC, Appoints Replacement

Tinubu sacks Nkiruka Madueke as NCCC head

As reported by Vanguard, Dr Madueke, the pioneer head of the council, was appointed by President Tinubu in June 2024.

In a major move, the President has now appointed Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new director general of the NCCC.

Bayo Onanuga, the president's spokesperson, announced the development in a statement to the press on Thursday.

According to the statement, the appointment of Majekodunmi, an environmental lawyer, was with immediate effect.

Speaking further, Onanuga said the climate finance expert had worked extensively with global and national institutions on renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance.

She previously served as the NCCC’s financial adviser and has played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and international engagements.

Despite being relived of her role, Tinubu still thanked Dr Madueke, for her dedicated service and strong foundation for the council’s continued growth.

“Majekodunmi’s appointment reaffirms the Tinubu administration’s commitment to tackling climate change as both an environmental necessity and a driver of sustainable economic growth, national security, and social inclusion,” the statement added.

Borno governor dissolves cabinet, sacks commissioners

In a similar development, Legit.ng reported that the governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum, dissolved his cabinet and sacked two commissioners, announcing their replacements and giving an explanation.

Legit.ng also reported that President Tinubu appointed Prof. Don Mon Baridam as the Pro-Chancellor and chairman of the governing council of the Federal University of Environment and Technology.

The appointment of Professor Chinedu Mmom, a professor of geography and former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, as the vice-chancellor of the newly-formed institution was also announced.

Bayo Onanuga, a presidential aide, confirmed the appointments in a statement released on Wednesday, July 30, adding that President Tinubu also appointed principal officers of federal university in Ogoniland.
