President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of a new director-general of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Omotenioye Majekodunmi, just 24 hours after DCG Olumode Samuel Adeyemi was appointed as the Federal Fire Service Controller-General.
Majekodunmi's appointment was disclosed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser on information and strategy to President Tinubu, in a statement on Thursday, July 31, adding that the appointment takes immediate effect.

Why is NCCC's director general?
The Nation reported that the new NCCC's DG was said to be a seasoned environmental lawyer. She is also a climate finance expert. She was appointed to succeed Nkiruka Madueke, who was appointed by President Tinubu as the council's pioneer in June 2024.
She has over 17 years of experience and has worked with both national and international organisations on renewable energy, climate governance and carbon markets.
The new presidential appointee has been serving as the NCCC's financial adviser before her new appointment. In her previous role, she played a major role in shaping the climate policies of Nigeria and international climate engagements.
According to the statement, the president expressed gratitude to Madueke, commending her dedication to service and the strong foundation she created for the NCCC.
Tinubu appoints fire service controller-general
This came just 24 hours after Tinubu announced the appointment of DCG Olumode Samuel Adeyemi to be the new substantive Federal Fire Service (FFS) Controller-General. Further details revealed that Adeyemi's appointment will be effective from August 14, 2025.
Abdulmalik Jibrin, the secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, July 30.
According to Vanguard, the announcement of Adeyemi followed the retirement of Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji Olola, the current Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service. Olola's retirement would be effective from Friday, August 1, after attaining the age of sixty.
According to the statement, Adeyemi would be bringing his wealth of experience to the new role. He had been transferred from the FCT Fire Service to the Federal Fire Service, where he had grown to the position of Deputy Controller-General of Fire in the Human Resources Directorates at the headquarters of the service.

Tinubu declares national mourning for Buhari
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu has declared a seven-day national mourning in honour of the demise of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tinubu's declaration followed an earlier pronouncement when Tuesday, July 15, was declared a public holiday in honour of the former president.
The announcement, which a former Buhari aide shared, has continued to generate reactions from concerned Nigerians.
