Tragedy as Gunmen kill APGA Chieftain’s Son “Fish Magnet”, Police Take Action

Anambra state - A popular businessman and son of an All Progressives Grand Alliance chieftain in Anambra state, Ifesinachi Onyekere, also known as “Fish Magnet,” has been killed by unknown gunmen.

The gunmen kidnapped the victim after invading his residence in Ezinifite community, Okpuno, Awka South LGA of the state, in a late-night attack on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

According to The Punch, assailants shot the victim in the leg before whisking him away in his car.

A source in the area said the hoodlums invaded the victim’s compound in an ash coloured sports utility vehicle.

The source said the attackers invaded the victim’s compound about 10:30pm, and fled the scene after shooting him on his leg.

“The assailants escaped through bush paths towards Nawfia, while firing gunshots into the air, thereby triggering panic in the area.

The source further stated that:

“He was in captivity for three days until a ransom was paid, but instead of setting him free, they ended his life. He was later found lifeless by the roadside this morning. He was young, hardworking, full of promise, known for his passion and thriving fish business.”

The state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that joint security operatives have recovered the victim’s vehicle.

Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has assured that the criminal elements behind this cowardly act will be brought to book.

Woman kills, dismembers pregnant nurse in Anambra

Recalls that operatives of the Anambra State Police Command arrested a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor.

The suspect was arrested for killing and dismembering a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

The Police spokesperson, SP Ikenga, shared more details about the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that no fewer than ten Ebonyi state indigenes were killed by suspected gunmen during a meeting in Orumba South LGA of Anambra state.

SP Ikenga confirmed the attack and killings in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 .

The police PRO assured that the command shall hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
