APC Chieftain Slams Kwankwaso for Allegedly Plotting to Take Back Power to North
- APC’s Yekini Nabena accused Rabiu Kwankwaso of trying to incite Northerners against the South to stop a Southern presidency from completing eight years
- Nabena questioned why the North still lags in development despite previously holding power
- He warned that old tactics of using ethnic or religious sentiment to sway voters are losing relevance
A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Yekini Nabena, has criticised ex-Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over his recent remarks alleging that Nigeria’s South is unfairly favoured in federal projects and development.
Reacting in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Nabena argued that Kwankwaso’s comments were aimed at fuelling regional tensions to undermine the South’s right to complete an eight-year term in the presidency.

He maintained that attempts to stir ethnic or religious divisions to disrupt power rotation would not succeed.
Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), had faulted the federal government for allegedly neglecting infrastructure in the North, and he claimed the South had received more attention and investment.
Kwankwaso slammed for playing politics
Nabena dismissed these claims, suggesting that Kwankwaso’s true intention was to mobilise Northern voters against the prospect of a Southern president seeking re-election in 2027.
“Such incitement for political business or negotiation, like some politicians did in 2019 and 2023, can no longer work because the people now know the real intention,” he said.
“The Kano voters now know who is using them for political business and even the political gladiators now understand the tactics of political merchants.”
The APC chieftain, who hails from Bayelsa State, challenged Kwankwaso to travel across the South-South region and compare its road infrastructure to that of the North.

He argued that despite the North recently holding power for eight years, it remains underdeveloped—raising questions about whether Northern resources were truly diverted to benefit the South.
“Is the North inferior or superior to the South after eight years of the North in the helm of affairs of Nigeria? Why is Senator Kwankwaso still complaining of underdevelopment in the North when the region just completed its eight years?” Nabena asked.

Nabena also dismissed Kwankwaso’s perceived influence over Northern votes, warning that old tactics of using ethnicity or religion to sway elections are becoming outdated.
“You cannot intimidate the South or anybody with Kano votes any longer,” he said.
“The era of playing religious or ethnic cards is far becoming unfashionable.”
Ex-Buhari minister declares war on Tinubu
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the former minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, had declared that the 2027 general elections would not just be another electoral cycle but a full-blown confrontation between the Nigerian people and the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during a recent interview on News Central, Dalung voiced strong dissatisfaction with the state of the nation, blaming the Tinubu-led government for deepening the hardship faced by ordinary citizens.
