BREAKING: Tragedy as Wandering Elephant Kills Farmer in Ogun

Ijebu East, LGA - Ogun state - A wandering elephant reportedly attacked and killed a farmer identified as Musa Kalamu at Imobi in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun state.

The commissioner for Forestry in Ogun state, Taiwo Oludotun, confirmed this tragic incident.

As reported by The Punch, the elephant wandered from one of the government reserved forests on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

Oludotun said:

“Yes, we are aware, and we are already on our way to the community”.

The commissioner of police, Lanre Ogunlowo, also confirmed the tragic death of the farmer.

CP Ogunlowo disclosed that the farmer passed on on his way to the hospital, adding that calm has returned to the community.

He further added that the police contacted the forestry operatives to curtail the animals from further damage.

“The DPO Ogbere received information from the Itasin community on 28/07/2025 at about 1620hrs that elephants escaped from the government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu, who died on the way to the hospital.
“Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage. Calm has returned to the community”.

The locals in the viral video showing the lifeless body of the farmer were heard shouting:

“This is Kala, he was attacked by the elephants at Onitasin, you can see the marks of the attack all over his body, with some part of his intestine outside.

Elephants attack, 'kill' people in Cross River

Recall that wild elephants invaded communities in Cross River state and reportedly killed some residents.

A federal lawmaker said the animals had attacked citizens, forcing farmers to abandon lands out of fear.

Legit.ng reported that some elephants can be deadly as they impale people with their trunks or trample them.
