PHC renovation under IMPACT project

In a statement issued to journalists in Kano on Monday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Information, Ibrahim Adam, revealed that the bulk of PHCCs in the state were found to be in a dilapidated condition when the administration assumed office in 2023.

Adam stated, “The State Government has commenced the general renovation and equipping of such hospitals. Below is a list of 203 hospitals that the government will renovate and equip under the impact project. This is in addition to the ongoing upgrade of 18 primary facilities to secondary facilities.”

The information manager reiterated that the governor was deeply troubled by the challenges faced by underserved communities, particularly in rural areas, when trying to access emergency medical services. He noted that PHCCs should be the first point of care, yet their poor state had hindered their effectiveness.

Upgrades to primary health care infrastructure

In addition to the renovation of existing facilities, Adam confirmed that 18 PHCCs were being upgraded to the level of secondary healthcare facilities. He emphasised that these efforts are aimed at expanding access and improving the quality of healthcare delivery for residents across Kano State.

The government’s renewed focus on healthcare is expected to bring relief to communities long affected by poor infrastructure and lack of essential medical services.
