- Titilope Anifowoshe, a legal practitioner, made the call while speaking with Legit.ng, described Nigeria as a pluralistic country and therefore, every region must be represented
- The legal icon's comment came following the recent appointment by President Tinubu, which featured mostly northerners and has been commended by Senator Ali Ndume
President Bola Tinubu has been urged to be urged to ensure that every one of his appointments reflects the principle of federal character. Titilope Anifowoshe, a legal luminary, sent the message to the president in an exclusive interview with Legit.ng.
Anifowoshe explained that though the president has the liberty to give an appointment to anyone of his choice, the burden of Nigeria's national unity and equity rested on his shoulders. She explained that Nigeria is a pluralistic country and appointments need to reflect federal character.

She said:
"Appointments in a pluralistic country like Nigeria must reflect the spirit of federal character. Leadership is about balance, perception, and trust. While the President has the constitutional power to appoint anyone, the burden of national unity and equity cannot be ignored.
"President Tinubu must remember that perception in politics is powerful. Inclusivity is not a favour; it is a duty."
Ali Ndume commends Tinubu
Anifowoshe's comment came on the background of the recent appointments by President Tinubu, where the majority of the appointees came from the northern region. The president, who was earlier criticised by Ali Ndume, commended the president for the new appointment.
Ndume, the senator representing Borno South, made a U-turn on his criticism of President Tinubu on the lopsidedness in this appointment so far. This is as Ndume praised Tinubu for his recent appointments of northerners to some key positions in the federal agencies.
Ndume, in a statement he signed personally and issued in Abuja on Saturday, May 24, commended President Tinubu for responding to his earlier concerns over his allegation of regional imbalance in his administration's appointments.

Ali Ndume makes case for Southeast
The latest appointment by President Tinubu was also north majority, in which Ndume did not hesitate to commend. The senator also made a case for the southeast region. Like Anifowoshe, Ndume emphasised the importance of federal character and national unity.
In his latest appointment, Tinubu appointed Mohammed Babangida, the son of the former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, as the chairman of the Bank of Agriculture. The former president's son, though earlier allegedly rejected the appointment but denied the report and announced his acceptance of the appointment.
Tinubu declares national mourning for Buhari

Tinubu's declaration followed an earlier pronouncement when Tuesday, July 15, was declared a public holiday in honour of the former president.
The announcement, which a former Buhari's aide shared, has continued to generate reactions from concerned Nigerians.
