Daura, Katsina state - The remains of ex-Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari were laid to rest at his residence in Daura, his hometown in Katsina state, at about 5:50 PM on Tuesday, July 15.
Buhari died in London, United Kingdom (UK) at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, following an illness.

Daily Trust noted the fresh update concerning Buhari's burial on Tuesday evening, July 15.

Legit.ng reports that the body of the 82-year-old statesman, which left the United Kingdom earlier on Tuesday, July 15, was received at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina by President Bola Tinubu.

Meanwhile, Buhari's first daughter, Fatima, arrived at her father’s home in Daura on Tuesday, July 15, in tears.
Fatima looked very sad and heartbroken and was seen crying quietly as she was comforted by close friends and relatives. Some mourners also shed tears.
Ex-President Buhari's funeral prayer, which was observed at the helipad area of the former leader’s hometown, was led by the chief imam of Daura, Sheikh Salisu Rabiu.

Tributes to Buhari
As Nigerians reflect on Buhari’s complex legacy, tributes have continued to pour in, from those who knew him personally and others who were shaped by his policies.
Major General Paul Tafa, a long-time friend and coursemate from Military Course 5, described Buhari as “principled and selfless,” noting his modest lifestyle and unwavering commitment to Nigeria.
Tafa said:
“He lived simply, and he lived happily. Nigeria will deeply miss him."
Former chief of army staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, highlighted Buhari’s military reforms, praising him for modernising the army, improving cyber warfare capacity, and founding institutions such as the Nigerian Army University.
Buratai added:
“His legacy in defence is still bearing fruit."
In the same vein, Antonio Guterres, United Nations (UN) secretary-general wrote on his verified X (formerly) handle:
"Deeply saddened by passing of former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
"He played a key role for regional peace and security and was a strong advocate for multilateral and regional cooperation.
"My heartfelt condolences to his family, the Government and the people of Nigeria."
Amina Mohammed, UN deputy secretary-general, also paid tribute, noting Buhari’s role in promoting national unity and Nigeria’s position on the global stage.
She said:
“Despite international pressures, Nigeria made key progress under his leadership."
Expert speaks on Buhari's legacy
In life and in death, Buhari is remembered for his strict discipline, austere lifestyle, and controversial leadership style that evoked both admiration and criticism.
Anthony Ogbetere, a political scientist, defended the late former president's legacy.
He told Legit.ng:
"Muhammadu Buhari may not have solved all of Nigeria’s problems, but he certainly did not cause all of them. He was a man who believed in discipline, in sacrifice, and in protecting the weak. Even if some did not agree with his methods, his intentions were never in doubt.
"As we move forward as a nation, we must learn to be more balanced. We must realise that no leader can perform magic in a country this complex. And we must begin to show respect to the living who carry the heavy burden of leadership. That is how nations grow."
Katsina governor shed tears over Buhari
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Dikko Radda, governor of Katsina state, fought back tears as he stood alongside other prominent individuals at the graveside of Buhari in Daura.
The governor, dressed in native attire, stood close to the gurney bearing the body at Buhari's burial site.
Camera lenses caught the governor overwhelmed by emotion.
