The general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has stirred reactions on social media X, formerly known as Twitter, following his recent warning to Christians.
Speaking during the church’s ongoing 73rd Annual Convention, themed “The Overcomers,” Adeboye warned Christians against prioritising material wealth over their spiritual well-being, describing such pursuits as “an act of stupidity.”

The clergyman emphasised the need for Christians to maintain spiritual discipline and resist worldly temptations.
“God does not hate enjoyment,” Adeboye said. “But the body you pamper, shine, and make up will perish one day. Take care of the spirit, for that is what will go to heaven. The body does not want you to be an overcomer.”

“If you are pursuing wealth at the expense of your soul, that would be stupidity,” he said. “What happens when you die? How many of those things can you take with you?”

The popular social media critic, in response, criticised Nigerian clergymen, who live lavish lifestyles but preach to members to focus on spiritual well-being over material wealth.

"Pastor Adeboye reportedly owns a private jet, a mansion, has access to luxury vehicles, but he's preaching "against prioritizing material wealth over their spiritual well-being". Many top Nigerian Men of God are known to live a lavish lifestyle, almost never practising what they preach," he wrote.

Pastor Adeboye's message is for Christians
According to Mary Abe, a RCCG member, Pastor Adeboye's sermon warning about wealth and spirituality was directed at Christians.
"The message for was for the church, people in the world, they can interprete anyway it pleases them," she said.
Pastor Adeboye sends message to Tinubu
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Pastor Adeboye reacted to Tinubu's financial rewards to the Super Falcons after their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) win in Morocco.
Adeboye commended the president for appreciating the players. He, however, argued that the coaches and technical officials deserved equal reward.
