Influencer Abisoye Olukoya Michael, aka Oyemykke, has laid the blame for growing anti-Nigerian sentiments abroad on the Igbo community.

He insisted that these nations complaining about the same issue suggest a deeper problem.

He stated:

“The people of South Africa cannot be complaining about the same thing as the people of Dubai, Kenya, and Ghana. That means there's something you're doing wrong"

He added that this isn’t just a foreign issue. Within Nigeria, similar sentiments are expressed by Yoruba citizens, especially regarding the perceived dominance of Igbos in Lagos.

“Lagos is not neutral ground” - Oyemmyke

Oyemykke added that it was time Igbos stop pushing the narrative that “Lagos belongs to everybody.”

He warned:

“You cannot leave your father’s house, come to my father’s house, and try to dominate me... even if you can, don’t rub it in my face"

While admitting that Igbos are known for their creativity and entrepreneurial drive, he urged them to become more sensitive to the cultural environment they find themselves in.

A social commentator, Sam Dede, called Oyemykke's comments reckless and divisive.

He stated:

“Oyemykke’s blanket accusation against the Igbo community is not only reckless but dangerously divisive. It’s deeply irresponsible to single out one ethnic group for complex, multi-layered issues facing Nigerians abroad. If we truly want to address the root causes of our international image problem, we must speak with facts, not bias.”
