WAFCON: Daniel Regha Drags FG Over $100k, 3-Bedroom Flat Reward to Super Falcons Players
- Daniel Regha criticised the federal government’s $100,000 and three-bedroom flat reward for each Super Falcons player following their WAFCON win
- While praising the team’s performance, he questioned the necessity of such lavish gifts amid Nigeria’s economic struggles
- Regha argued that the players were already entitled to 30% of the tournament's prize money, describing the additional rewards as a misuse of public funds
Nigerian social media critic Daniel Regha has triggered a fresh debate online following his reaction to the federal government's recent announcement of cash and housing rewards for the Super Falcons.
On July 28, Regha took to X (formerly Twitter) to express concern over what he described as a misuse of public funds.

In his post, Regha acknowledged that the Super Falcons had done a commendable job representing Nigeria on the international stage.
However, he questioned the rationale behind awarding each player $100,000 and a three-bedroom flat.
He argued that while recognising the team’s efforts is important, such grand gestures raise serious concerns, especially considering Nigeria’s current economic situation.
Regha further pointed out that the team was already entitled to 30% of the WAFCON tournament's prize money, making the additional government gifts appear excessive.
He questioned whether the funds for the rewards would be sourced from taxpayers’ money or loans, emphasising that the country is currently battling poverty and economic instability.
Highlighting the struggles of everyday Nigerians, including civil servants barely managing to survive on stagnant salaries, Regha described the government’s move as insensitive.
In his words:
"Super Falcons did a good job representing Nigeria, but why is Tinubu's government or administration gifting the players $100k each with an added three-bedroom flat? After the entire team is to get 30 per cent of the prize money? So the cash gifts will be coming from taxpayers' money or the one borrowed? For a country that's crippling with poverty, and where civil servants are struggling to make ends meet, how does this even sit well with anyone? Sorry, but this is a misuse of public funds."
