“Lagos Does Not Belong to Yorubas”: Charly Boy Shares Bold Opinion on Who Truly Owns the City
- Veteran entertainer Charly Boy has stated that Lagos belongs to no single tribe in the country
- In a recent interview, the activist likened the megacity to New York, calling it a melting pot of all ethnic groups
- Charly Boy made the comment days after expressing displeasure over his name being removed from a Bariga bus stop
Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has entered the ongoing debate about the true ownership of Lagos State.
According to the Area Fada, Lagos does not belong to any single tribe in Nigeria. Instead, he describes the city as a melting pot of cultures, much like New York City in the United States.
His comments were made during a recent interview with News Central TV, where he touched on the diversity and shared identity of Lagosians, regardless of origin.

Charly Boy also defended the popular saying that “Lagos is a no man’s land.” To him, the city’s strength lies in its ability to bring together Nigerians from every corner of the country.
He said:
“This is our first capital, so it has people from different ethnic groups who make Lagos really bubble. If you are looking at it from that perspective, yes it feels like America, the melting pot of lots of immigrant people… Lagos is like the New York of Nigeria.”
He went on to compare the social dynamics in Lagos to those in the U.S., adding that political tensions should not erase the role of immigrants in building thriving cities.
The Area Fada’s comments come just days after he expressed disappointment over the decision by the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to rename the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop after award-winning rapper Olamide Badoo.

VDM speaks on Charly Boy bus stop renaming
Verydarkman has reacted to the recent change in the name of one of the popular bus stops in Lagos State. A few days ago, it was announced that Charly Boy Bus Stop has been renamed to Baddo Bus Stop.
The video came as a surprise to many, with reactions flooding social media as people dragged the Yorubas and the Igbos.
Sharing his thoughts on the name change, VDM noted that this was a typical “mind game” played every time an election approaches. According to him, the government was simply setting up the Yorubas against the Igbos.
