Singer and activist Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, has weighed in on the recent decision by Lagos State’s Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to rename the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop after rap icon Olamide ‘Badoo’ Adedeji.

The Bariga LCDA chairman announced the change last Friday, explaining that the council’s new policy is to name public places after indigenes who are excelling both locally and internationally.

While many have applauded the move as a way of honouring homegrown talent, Charly Boy isn’t buying into the excitement.

Speaking during an interview with News Central, the Area Fada didn’t mince words.

While he insisted he had no personal issue with Olamide being honoured, he questioned the decision to erase his name from a landmark he believes he earned.

He stated:

“The fact that my bus stop was renamed is neither here nor there. I just believe that was a little bit silly, a little bit petty because if it is about talking about what one has done for that community, go and verify—you can’t touch my records.”

The entertainer hinted that the decision was more political than progressive.

Falana condemns Charly Boy bus stop renaming

Legit.ng earlier reported that amid the controversy over the renaming of Charly Boy bus stop to Badoo terminal, Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has condemned the recent wave of street and bus stop rechristenings in Bariga, Lagos.

Falana described the move as unconstitutional and carried out without public consultation.

Falana cited recent examples such as the reported naming of two streets by billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote, in honour of his late friend, Herbert Wigwe, and President Bola Tinubu, allegedly carried out without proper statutory approval.
