  • Candidates were advised to re-check their results after 24 hours while WAEC works to correct the glitches and restore the portal

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has suspended access to the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates following the discovery of technical issues linked to a new result processing system.

The council explained that it recently adopted a result release procedure involving paper serialisation as part of efforts to curb examination malpractice.

The method, already in use by another national examining body, was applied during the conduct of four major subjects.

Subjects mentioned in the WAEC statement:

  1. Mathematics
  2. English Language
  3. Biology
  4. Economics

WAEC disclosed that a technical bug was discovered during its internal post-release review.

WAEC apologises for errors, urges understanding

In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Department, WAEC said it took the decision to temporarily withdraw access to the results from the official result checker portal.

This move, the Council noted, was to allow for a prompt correction of the technical glitches identified in the process.

Candidates who had already viewed their results were advised to check again after 24 hours. WAEC assured that it is working to resolve the problem quickly and transparently.

“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter,” the Council said.

Like JAMB, WAEC admits "technical issue" amid mass failure criticism

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that The West African Examinations Council faced fresh criticism after it temporarily shut down its result checker portal, citing "technical issues" as the reason.

WAEC, in a statement on Wednesday, August 6, via its official page on X.com, announced the temporary shutdown of its result checker website.

“WAEC hereby informs the general public that the result checker portal @waecdirect.org is temporarily shut down due to technical issues.
“However, the Council is working assiduously to ensure that candidates are able to access their results in the next 24 hours. We apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused you,” the statement read.

Nigerians have reacted to the report that, like JAMB earlier this year, WAEC's systems experienced technical glitches, which affected the accuracy of the results earlier released.
