Education Minister Slams Libellous Campaign Against UBEC Executive Secretary

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday, August 5, by the Education Minister, Dr Tunji Alausa.

According to Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Ministry became aware of 'libellous' media reports that were disseminated by an unidentified group calling themselves the Education Rights Activists Coalition (ERAC), as reported by TVC.

Legit.ng gathered that the group had levelled accusations against Garba regarding administrative misconduct and a lack of regard for the rule of law. However, the Ministry has rejected these claims as being "baseless, misleading, and malicious".

According to the statement, Alausa described the attacks as a calculated effort by 'disgruntled individuals' aimed at hindering the reform agenda in basic education led by Garba.

“Aisha Garba is an internationally recognised education expert with over 24 years of experience, including 15 years at the World Bank. She has brought integrity, competence, and global best practices to UBEC,” he said.

The statement further revealed that the ministry notes the significant progress Garba's leadership has made in enhancing access, equity, and quality in basic education.

During this time, UBEC has built close to 5,000 classrooms, renovated more than 3,000, and set up Early Childhood Care and Development centres across the nation.

In terms of teacher training, more than 147,000 educators have received training in contemporary teaching techniques. Additionally, close to 978,800 individuals have participated in what is described as Nigeria's largest Teacher Professional Development program to date.

The Ministry of Education reiterated that Garba's tenure has been free of any recorded financial infractions or breaches. The Ministry also urged the public to dismiss the allegations as "orchestrated falsehoods".
