The Nigerian Tribune reported that the fake circular contained 120 schools picked across the country, majority of which are in Lagos state, stating:

“principals of the affected schools must appear before the Investigative Panel on or before Friday, August 16, 2025, with relevant documents and the scripts of the affected candidates where applicable.”

Reacting via a post shared on its X page on Tuesday morning, the examination body said the list never emanated from WAEC.

WAEC stated that it would never ask any school to bring the scripts of their candidates because no school has access to documents.

"Kindly ignore any message listing schools whose results were supposedly cancelled. Meanwhile, WAEC will never ask any centre to bring scripts of candidates to the office. Where would they get them from?"
"Do not accept any message that is not on our handles and accredited media."
