Yaba, Lagos state - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) released the results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The WASSCE results were for school candidates who sat for the examinations conducted between April and June.

As reported by Premium Times, WAEC’s Head of Nigeria Office, Amos Dangut, said the exam was also conducted in schools located in Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea.

Dangut said the schools outside the country operate the Nigerian curriculum.

4 facts to know about WASSCE 2025 results

Below are 4 interesting facts to know about newly released 2025 WASSCE results:

1. Only 754,545 candidates, representing 38.32 per cent, obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

2. 976,787 of the candidates who sat the exam were male, while 992,526 were female, representing 49.60 per cent and 50.40 per cent respectively.

3. 12,178 candidates with varying degrees of special needs were registered

4. The results of 1,517,517 candidates (77.06 per cent) have been fully processed and released.

Legit.ng reports that WAEC is an examination board established to conduct examinations and award certificates to secondary school students in West Africa.

Created in 1952, the council conducts examinations in 5 English-speaking countries of West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and the Gambia).

WAEC conducts a variety of examinations, most notably the WASSCE. This examination is offered for both school candidates (May/June) and private candidates (January/February and November/December).

How to check 2025 WASSCE results

WAEC has disclosed how to check the WASSCE 2025 results following its release on Monday, August 4, 2025.

87.24 percent of WASSCE 2025 candidates obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

However, only 38.32 percent obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language.

FG to shift WAEC exam to CBT.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the federal government revealed plans to utilise both privately owned and public computer-based testing (CBT) centres across the country to conduct the Senior School Certificate Examination starting in 2026.

Education Minister, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this after observing a trial run of the CBT for SSCE conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO) at Sascon International School in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city.
