NYSC: Nigerian Governor Resumes Payment of Corps Members’ Allowances

Gusau, Zamfara State – Governor Dauda said the Zamfara state government will resume payment of state allowances to corps members after suspending them for several months.
Governor Lawal also announced that the government had commenced payment of special allowances to corps medical personnel.

The governor made this known at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch B, Stream 1, corps members deployed to the state in Gusau on Friday, August 1, 2025.
As reported by The Punch, Governor Lawal was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Nasiru Galadima.
Governor Lawal said the gesture is to ensure that the welfare of corps members is significantly improved.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urged the corps members to approach the service year with passion and integrity.
“As corps members, I am calling on you to make an impact in your respective communities.
“The safety and welfare of every corps member serving in Zamfara is paramount to my administration.”
Governor Lawal restated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of corps members throughout their service year.
“This is in addition to providing an enabling environment for the corps members, NYSC management, and staff in the state to discharge their duties diligently.”
Akwa Ibom governor increases corps members' allowance
Recall that Governor Umo Eno approved an increase in corps members’ monthly state allowance in Akwa Ibom from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.
The new allowance takes effect from 1st August 2025 and is meant to complement the Federal Government’s proposed ₦77,000 monthly stipend.
Eno reaffirmed his commitment to corps members’ welfare, highlighting recent projects like the reconstruction of the NYSC orientation camp in the state.

In a similar story, Legit.ng reported that as part of the effort to improve the welfare of corps members, Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, announced a new monthly stipend for serving corps members.

On Friday, August 1, the governor increased the monthly allowance of NYSC members serving in the state from N20,000 to N30,000 and also promised to build a new NYSC camp.
This happened days after his Akwa Ibom counterpart, Umo Eno, increased corps members’ monthly state allowance from N5,000 to N20,000.
