NMDPRA Shows Amount Nigerians Spent on Petrol As Marketers Slash Prices Below Dangote’s Cost

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has revealed that Nigerians spent an estimated N1.3 trillion on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol in June 2025.
According to NMDPRA, a total of 1.44 billion litres of PMS were distributed nationwide during the month.

In June, petrol pump prices ranged between N885 and N925 per litre. This translates to an average price of N905 per litre.
The regulator revealed the figures in its report to the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC).
Breakdown of petrol activities in June
According to the report about N411.9 billion worth of fuel was trucked directly from refineries, while N891.9 billion worth originated from depots nationwide.
An analysis of the figures reveals that daily offtake from local refineries stood at 15 million litres, while depot supplies averaged 35 million litres per day.
In total, refineries accounted for 455.2 million litres used in the country, while depots supplied 985.6 million litres, representing an 18.55% increase from the 1.22 billion litres recorded in May.
The Guardian reports that in June alone, 455.2 million litres of PMS were transported from refineries, while 985.6 million litres were supplied from depots, marking an 18.55% increase from the 1.22 billion litres recorded in May.
The average daily distribution was 48 million litres in June, a reduction from 54 million litres in May.
The number of trucks stood at 32,000 in June from about 37,000 in May.

Petroluem products distribution in Nigeria
Other petroleum products also witnessed notable activity. Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), or diesel, recorded a distribution of 424 million litres in June, down from 552 million litres in May.
Refineries supplied 54 million litres, while depots delivered 370 million litres. Daily truck-outs dropped to 14 million litres in June, from 17 million litres in May.
For Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK), volume rose from 54 million litres in May to 67 million litres in June, reflecting increased air traffic or improved supply.
Marketers slash prices below N860
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that independent importers have slashed petrol prices below those offered by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, triggering fresh competition in the market.
Some filling stations now sell petrol for less than N860 per litre, around N850, while Dangote’s distribution partners, including MRS, Heyden, and others, maintain prices between N865 and N875 in Lagos and Ogun States.
Dangote refinery was selling petrol at N820 per litre while some depots sold the product at N815 per litre.
