Makurdi, Benue state - The governor of Benue state, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has reiterated his administration's dedication to turning the state into a thriving economic centre through targeted investments in solid minerals, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Tersoo Kula, on Monday, August 4.

According to the statement, the development was revealed during an inspection visit by a delegation from the Benue State Government and the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) presented and reviewed the Natural Resources Development Fund (NRDF) Grant Report, which Governor Alia termed the interaction a 'defining moment' in Benue's quest for sustainable development.

Alia said, “Prosperity is never automatic; it must be built deliberately, strategically, and inclusively.”

Alia's proposal aimed at economic growth

According to the statement, Governor Alia emphasised the connection between the NRDF initiative and Benue's recently unveiled 10-year Strategic Development Plan, which is built around seven development pillars.

He noted that Benue's proposal to the NRDF seeks to achieve significant outcomes, including diversifying the economy, boosting internally generated revenue (IGR), attracting foreign direct investment, and establishing export-focused value chains.

The statement outlines the projects put forward for consideration under the NRDF, including endeavours in mineral resource development, agribusiness innovation, tourism enhancement, and upgrades to critical infrastructure.

The statement noted that the governor called for support from the commission and other stakeholders,

stating that, “...this is not just a funding request; it’s a blueprint for wealth creation, job generation, and inclusive growth.”

Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration's commitment to fostering good governance, bolstering institutional capacity, and empowering the youth and women of the state. He pledged that under his leadership, Benue would keep reflecting the values of transparency, functionality, and progress.

"The Food Basket of the Nation" with vast natural and human resources, submitted that partnership with federal institutions and development agencies remains the cornerstone of Benue’s transformation agenda.
“We know we cannot do this alone. That is why this collaboration is so important,” the statement added.

The event was attended by senior officials from the RMAFC, members of the Benue State Executive Council, development experts, and traditional leaders.
